This place is indeed the most sought after tourist place in the country. This place is known as the QUEEN OF HILLS because this was the Britishers favourite summer spot. The original name of this place is UDHAGAMANDALAM and its situated on the NILGIRIs which means blue mountains.

Ooty is situated in the heart of the Nilgiris mountains at an altitude of about 2500 mts above sea level. This place has a very pleasant climate throughout the year with mercury swinging between 10 and 25 degrees celcius all round the year. The ideal time to visit this place is april to june and september to november. The only thing which is not to be forgotten while touring this place is warm clothes.

Wow! What a place!! Breathtaking!!! Dont get confused. These are the first words which comes to the mind of every tourist who visits this beauty on Earth. Dont beleive it??? Then just have a glance at these pics. I am sure this would definitely temptate you to visit this place.

This pic is the view of the very famous Kodai lake. This lake is always full of tourists coz there is enough stuff around here for tourists to spend a couple of days.

This is a view of the Kodai road which is the pathway to this great place. Hmmm! Now it s time to describe this place. As simple as it goes, Kodaikanal is an excellent hill station on the Palani hills of the Western Ghats of the Great Indian subcontinent. It is about 500 kms from chennai and about 125 kms from Madurai in the Tamil Nadu state of India. Being at an altitude of about 2000 m above sea level this place has a very good climate with mercury running between 10 to 20 degrees all round the year. There is no particular visiting period for this place as whenever tourists visit this place they are given a royal welcome by the amazing mist and pleasure filled weather.

TAJ MAHAL:

This monument has stood the test of time to showcase LOVE. Rated as a Wonder Of The World, this historic marble marvel was built on the banks of the river Yamuna by one of the greatest architectural Emperor Shah Jahan to symbolize his love for his wife Mumtaz Mahal. Its a white marble structure which engaged around 22000 men for about 20 years. The first element of this architectural feat is the royal entrance gateway (shown in the pic) which gives a royal welcome to the visitors. Beyond the entrance are two pathways which lead to the main structure. A pool runs between the two pathways with vibrant fountains, designed to provide refreshment to the eyes of the visitor. If you ve experienced tiredness, then there are magnificient gardens around the pathways to feed you with relaxing moments. Ideal time to visit this place is during the winter season between November to January. This place looks vibrantly beautiful in the moon light of the full moon. Thats the ultimate moment to look at this monument.

Then its the turn of the Taj Mahal itself. The main catch of it is the white marble tomb resting on a square plinth. Four minarets surround the main structure signifying security. Its a fantabulous Sikh Shrine with the most outstanding feature of it being that the main temple has entrances on all the four sides, signifying that everyone is welcome to the home of god without any discretion whatsoever. But once the tourist goes to this place there are certain rules to follow there:
1. Every human has to cover his head as a mark of respect to god. Men do it with turban or handkerchief, n women with dupatta. They are also available for sale near the temple premises.
2. No human is permitted to drink, smoke or eat non vegetarian food inside the temple premises.
3. This is half way a rule. No human should enter the temple with bad intentions in mind or with bad thoughts. Enter the home of god with a clean heart.

Once you reach this place make sure you visit this place in the early hours of the morning when hundreds of people reach this place to worship their lord. The best season to visit this place is during the month of Vaisakhi(generally the second week of april) or during the Diwali time when the temple is beautifully lit with the lights of thousands of diya's(candles). As the climate is generally cold here make sure you have enough warm clothes, to maintain the heat and the enthusiastic spirit in you. And nearby this famous architectural feat, is the Jallian wala bagh which has been a landmark in the Indian Independence struggle.
And after you finish this remarkable tour to the Golden temple, you have a busy market place and the famous Punjabi Dhaba's waiting for you. Dal makhani, kadhai paneer, chole bhature, the famous punjabi lassi and many more traditional foods await you at these places which brings out the stuffed hunger in the tourists and gives him a refreshingly new spirit to explore the busy market place. Make sure that you wear the Patiala jibba pajama(traditional wear) atleast once and probably buy one as a souvenir or for you personal comfort.
